Kilkenny has a chequered history and this is your chance to discover some of the history that makes Kilkenny somewhat famous for its sinister past. In this one-hour Kilkenny ghost tour, you will be guided by a professional tour guide, who will enlighten you on some dark tales of Kilkenny's medieval past. You may be familiar with some of the folklore of Kilkenny's past, from the 14th Century trial of Dame Alice Ketyler to the stories of Sir Richard Shee but now you will get closer to the stories in a evening ghost tour of Kilkenny.
Your Kilkenny ghost tour commences from the upstairs of the mysterious Lanigans Bar 20:00, here you will meet your Kilkenny tour guide for the evening. Your guide will be in the guise of one of a spooky character from the Banshee, Monk, Highwayman, Priest Hunter, the Witch or Dr Death. Your guide you will take you from the comfort of Lanigans Bar onto the streets of Ireland's oldest medieval city starting at St. Marys Lane, you will hear of the tales of Sir Richard Shee before heading to St Mary's Church. Next, you will learn of the trial of Dame Alice Ketyler a witch, along with her accomplices Petronilla, Basilia and Robin Artisson an imp in a very disturbing tale. Following this, your Kilkenny tour guide will take you to Rothe House and then onto the chilling Kilkenny Prison, of which many terrifying tales can be told. Your ghost tour of Kilkenny then heads over to the unnerving Black Abbey up to Black Mill Street to St Mary's Cathedral and to Chaple Lane where you may bump into the likes of James Freney, the highwayman. Next up, the tour will take you to John's Bridge, which collapsed in 1763.
